The Indian High Commission , in collaboration with the ministry of youth affairs & sports , organised Viksit Bharat Run 2025 in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate and showcase India's developmental strides. The event was one of the biggest global outreach initiatives of India.
Flagging off the run, Union minister Jitin Prasada said “the spirit and intent of the Viksit Bharat Run is inspired by the hunger and zeal of young Indians to propel their nation onto the ‘developed” status by 2047 under the dedicated leadership of Prime Minister Modi .”
Prabhakaran Parameswaran, representing Batu constituency and Yuneswaran Ramaraj, MP of Segamat, joined Jitin Prasada and high commissioner B N Reddy in inaugurating the Run at the famous Kepong Metropolitan Park of Kuala Lumpur.
The High Commissioner and the other guests planted three saplings at the park, before flagging off the run, in line with the spirit of PM Modi's ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ initiative.
The event drew enthusiastic response from both NRIs and Malaysian Indians and also witnessed active participation from other community leaders of Malaysia.
Expressing his happiness that Kuala Lumpur was selected as one of the international cities for the Run, Reddy said, “it is only befitting since Malaysia is home to the third largest Indian diaspora in the world, and is a popular destination for Indian tourists. The business and professional ties between the two countries are also growing steadily.”
The Run also celebrates one year of India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership , which was launched during the visit of Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to India in August last year. It also commemorates Malaysia’s Chair of ASEAN this year, and India’s successful collaboration of over 30 years with ASEAN, Reddy added.
More than 500 participants from the Indian diaspora, and Indian expatriate community registered with MY Bharat to show their commitment to India; to serve the country by contributing to it’s growth and vision.
Abhishek Srivastava, Sales Lead for ASEAN & east Asia, Honeywell, said, “this run is very important as it connects us instantly and strongly to our prime minister’s vision of an Atmanirbhar India. I am here with my colleagues and friends from India and we all take pride in India’s advancement.”
Under the theme “Run to Serve the Nation”, the event was held as part of Seva Pakhwada (17 September - 2 October) campaign by Government of India, and reflected the transformative progress India has achieved in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, technology, education, and sustainability under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The run also celebrated the ideals of Seva Bhav (spirit of selfless service) and embodied India’s Swadeshi ethos, highlighting the collective call for self-reliance, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility.
