The second season of Meghan Markle's cookery show on Netflix will "flop" just like the first season because it has the "exact same formula," a royal commentator has claimed. Netflix released the trailer for the second season of With Love, Meghan this week, which is set to be released on August 26. Filming took place alongside the first season last year.
Among the celebrity guests joining the former Suits star during the eight episodes will be US model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen and Queer Eye star Tan France, as well as podcaster Jay Shetty and his cookbook author wife Radhi Devlukia. Chefs Samin Nosrat, Clare Smyth, Christina Tosi, Jose Andres, and David Chang, and Meghan's close friends, make-up entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima, pilates instructor Heather Dorak, and makeup artist Daniel Martin, will also appear.
But a royal commentator said the new season will receive the same scathing reviews as the previous one.
The first season ranked 383rd in the streaming giant's global most-watched list, gathering a total of 5.3million views in the first half of the year. It also snatched a 3.2 rating out of 10 on IMDb.com.
One review in The Guardian described it as a "gormless lifestyle filler" and "so pointless it might be the Sussexes' last TV show," while the Telegraph described it as "insane".
Now, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has criticised the Duchess for "trying to wash her reputation" with her new show.
She told The Sun: "I think she's doing this 'pursuit of joy, happiness, look at me dancing, having fun' as a way to change public perception about her."
"If you weren't impressed with the first season, don't expect a sudden evolution. You're getting more of the same recipe here, and you really see that in the trailer. It doesn't look like there's any real shift here - even the music is very much the same."
The expert added: "The first season was a critical flop but the Sussexes still have a certain morbid curiosity factor around them. People can't help but peek, even if they roll their eyes while watching."
However, some fans appeared to be excited for With Love, Meghan's new season.
One user wrote on Instagram: "This is going to upset a lot of people who claimed their deal was a failure. so glad its back i love her show gooooo Meghan Sussex."
Another one added: "Sooo excited about these guests!!! Can't wait!!" A third one commented: "Finally!!!!! I'm so excited. I love her. She has the aura I imagine. She's so soft & humble."
