Major UK high street retailer is closing 12 stores this month - full list

Poundland is closing 12 stores this month, delivering a major blow to bargain hunters across the UK. It's been a testing year for businesses up and down the country, with closed doors and boarded-up windows becoming a common sight.

The discount retailer is currently in the midst of a restructuring and recovery plan after investment firm Gordon Brothers bought the chain for just £1 in June. The new owners previously confirmed a plan to shut 68 stores and two warehouses as the much-loved chain fights to stay alive. Poundland had 800 stores at the start of the restructuring process but will be left with between 650 and 700. The business employs over 14,000 staff.

Poundland revealed it had concluded its 68-store closure programme, closing 57 stores by September 28 and placing 11 further closures on hold.

However, the budget retailer has now confirmed a further 12 stores will close this month, according to MEN. Some stores will put their shutters down for good today, while six will shut for good in the next week.

Shoppers will be able to grab a bargain as the stores earmarked for closure will launch massive sales.

Poundland's retail director, Darren MacDonald, said customers will be treated to "special reductions" that will help them leave "these locations with pride."

He said: "We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we're determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.

"These special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across out wider network, will help us leave these locations with pride.

"And when our doors close in these locations, we'll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we'll continue to operate right across the UK."
