I was lucky enough to get an exclusive look at the Sainsbury's Christmas advert for 2025, and the feel-good ad is the perfect way to get you into the festive spirit. The BFG makes a triumphant return to screens, teaming up with Sainsbury's colleague, Annie, to replenish festive food with the new Taste the Difference Christmas range.
The advert opens with the BFG and Annie delivering a family's Christmas food shop, but the celebrations are interrupted by an unexpected guest, The Greedy Giant. The 48-foot permanently giant with an insatiable appetite devours all the food in a Sainsbury's delivery van before turning his attention to homes, crashing through rooftops and munching through an entire spread of Christmas goodies, including the all-important pigs in blankets.
As the chaos unfolds, the focus quickly shifts away from the food and instead highlights the heartwarming partnership between Annie and the BFG. Together, they work to replace the stolen feast, and it's these small, heartfelt moments that really made the ad stand out for me.
The dynamic duo later discover the giant snoozing outside a Sainsburys store after his feast, before he is whisked away with the help of other colleagues.
Just when it seems like their mission is complete, Annie realises she has one final thing to do and invites the BFG to join her family for Christmas lunch.
It's a simple yet beautiful gesture, one that captures the true essence of Christmas. I'm sure most people will feel the same, but that moment was the heart of the ad for me.
By the end of the ad, I was speechless - I had forgotten that it was even about food, which is pretty unbelievable considering I was watching an advert from one of the largest supermarket chains in the country.
Although I wasn't completely blown away, it was nice to get a feel-good reminder of how important it is to share the holiday spirit.
Yes, there was the giant chomping his way through a festive feast, but it was Annie's invitation to the BFG to join her for Christmas dinner that will be remembered.
While this might not be my all-time favourite Christmas ad, Sainsbury's has definitely nailed the balance of fun and warmth.
