Mumbai: Bollywood musician and composer Sachin Sanghvi was arrested on alleged sexual assault charges on Friday and then released on bail. Part of the music duo Sachin-Jigar, his arrest followed a complaint by a 29-year-old woman.
Sanghvi is known for his hit songs in ‘Stree 2’, ‘Bhediya’, Param Sundari and the recently released “Thamma”.
The complainant claimed that he sexually assaulted her after initially contacting her in February 2024. She alleged that she came in contact with the singer after he sent her an Instagram message.
Sanghvi allegedly promised her a chance in his music album, and they later exchanged phone numbers. She also claimed that Sanghvi called her to his studio, where he proposed marriage and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. Following this allegation, a police probe was launched, which led to Sanghvi’s arrest under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
India Today reported that Sanghvi was arrested after the case was registered, but released on bail soon after.
Speaking on behalf of the musician, lawyer Aditya Mithe said: “The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated. There are absolutely no merits to the case. My client’s detention by the police was illegal and that is the reason why he was released on bail immediately. We intended to defend all allegations fully and unequivocally.”
The Sachin-Jigar duo comprise Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya. The pair has contributed to several prominent Bollywood films. Some believe that their rise in the popularity charts could have been the cause behind such allegations against the singer-composer.
