Manchester United are set to launch their opening bid for Botafogo star John Victor as they search for a new goalkeeper. A reshuffle between the sticks was anticipated this summer, with Andre Onana’s future looking uncertain.
The former Inter Milan man has endured an inconsistent spell at Old Trafford since his arrival from Italy. It has been suggested that the Red Devils are open to letting Onana leave on loan this summer.
And a few potential replacements have already been touted for him. Aston Villa star Emi Martinez is expected to be right at the top of their list, while Porto star Diogo Costa and Cruz Azul number one Kevin Mier have also been linked.
Meanwhile Botafogo stopper John Victor emerged as a potential target following his starring role for the Brazilian side at the Club World Cup. It now appears that United are ready to make a tangible move.
According to Goal Brazil, United have already submitted an enquiry to Botafogo and after a few meetings, they are ready to table an official offer. Victor would certainly be a more affordable option for the Red Devils given he has a £5.8m release clause written into his contract with his current club.

Speaking last year, Victor’s agent Pedro Gutierrez admitted that there was growing interest in the goalkeeper. He said: “I have had many phone calls from clubs in Europe enquiring about John and that is no surprise after what he has achieved with Botafogo.
"There has been interest from clubs in England, Germany, Portugal and elsewhere, but John would prefer to play in the best league in the world – the Premier League. Liverpool and Manchester City both have Brazilian goalkeepers in Alisson and Ederson and they have both been successful in England.
"John would like the opportunity to emulate those two and become the latest Brazilian goalkeeper to showcase his talents in the Premier League".

A potential move for Victor comes just weeks after Onana failed to commit his future to the Red Devils. Asked if he was set to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer, he replied: "Will I leave? I don't know, we'll see!"
Meanwhile, alternative target Emi Martinez also made some telling comments regarding his own commitment to Aston Villa. Speaking in the summer, he said: “My future? I don't know, I come here to play for the national team, and that's the only thing that matters to me right now," Martinez said. "Do I want to move to a new club? The transfer window just opened, so there's still a long way to go."
