The rumours of a rift between Nicola and Victoria gained traction, especially as online observers noted that the two were rarely seen together in public. Brooklyn’s frequent absence from family gatherings only fuelled the fire, giving fans more reason to believe that the family was quietly navigating a strained relationship behind the scenes.
Here's a look inside the feud, starting with where it all began...
April 2022: The weddingAccording to insiders, tensions between Victoria and Nicola may have started in 2022,. One source claimed that singer Marc Anthony, who is close friends with Brooklyn’s parents, offered to perform as a wedding gift. However, when he got up on stage, he gave a gushing tribute to Victoria in his speech.
“It was totally just an ode to Victoria and how awesome she is. Nicola loves to be the centre of attention, especially on her wedding day. So this really, really p***ed her off,” the source told the . “She stormed off in the middle of her wedding reception with [sister] Brittany and her mom, and was crying her eyes out.”
In addition, the couple had planned their first dance to his music, but their special moment took an unexpected turn.
“Before the song even started, Marc asked Brooklyn to join him on stage and then announced, ‘The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on up...Victoria Beckham!’” the source recalled.
The moment reportedly shocked guests and left Nicola visibly upset, unsure why her mother-in-law would steal the spotlight on her big day. A second source backed the story, telling PEOPLE: “It was such a jaw-dropping moment that you could hear a pin drop. It wasn’t appropriate.”
According to the insiders, Nicola felt betrayed and believed Victoria’s actions were intentional, interpreting the move as an effort to hijack what was supposed to be a deeply romantic moment between newlyweds. Overwhelmed, Nicola allegedly left the room in tears.
“This was a pre-planned dance meant for Brooklyn and Nicola,” said the source. “She couldn’t understand why Victoria would insert herself like that.”
Another insider suggested the incident was just the beginning of a strained relationship. Despite repeated attempts to mend things, Brooklyn and Nicola have reportedly been “walking on eggshells” around the Beckham family ever since.
“Brooklyn feels torn - it’s his family, his blood - but his relationship with his father has always been complicated. At times, it’s felt more like business than family,” the insider explained.
August 2022: Dress dramaNicola was originally expected to wear a custom gown designed by Victoria for her wedding to Brooklyn. However, in a surprising turn of events, she ultimately walked down the aisle in an elegant Valentino creation - a decision that reportedly sparked early rumours of a rift between her and her future mother-in-law.
Speaking to Vanity Fair in August, four months after the wedding, Nicola addressed the speculation surrounding the so-called “dress drama”. She clarified that there was no ill intent behind the wardrobe switch.

“I was going to [wear a Victoria Beckham dress], and I really wanted to,” she said. “But then, a few months down the line, she realised that her atelier couldn’t make it, so I had to choose another dress. She didn’t say I couldn’t wear it, and I didn’t say I didn’t want to. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”
Nicola’s comments aimed to put the rumours to rest, but by then, the narrative of a Beckham family feud had already gained traction. In the months following, Brooklyn and Nicola were barely seen with the family, fuelling the rumours.
In the months leading up to the wedding, tensions appeared to simmer beneath the surface, with Victoria and her family noticeably quiet on social media when it came to Nicola — and vice versa. Even Nicola’s once-close bond with Harper, Brooklyn’s younger sister, seemed to fade from view, further fuelling speculation of a growing rift between the two families.
'Cultural differences'Later that month, reports suggested that the problem was bigger than that between the two Mrs Beckhams, as David and Victoria were seemingly butting heads with their son's new in-laws, billionaire investor Nelson Peltz and his wife Claudia.
“Victoria and Nicola are just collateral damage. It’s not just about two women — it’s two families coming together,” a source told Page Six.
“It’s pretty obvious there’s an issue between the two families. Everybody needs to find their place. They’re just not quite connecting yet.”
Nelson Peltz was reportedly ready to back his son-in-law, , in any venture he chooses — sparking speculation in Palm Beach that the young couple may be preparing to build their own empire, reminiscent of Brooklyn’s famous parents’ Brand Beckham.
Sources suggested that Brooklyn and his wife Nicola have ambitions to launch lines in fashion, beauty and fragrance - mirroring the business success of David and Victoria.
“There’s a very deliberate strategy behind all of this, orchestrated by Nicola and her mother, with Nelson providing the funding,” a well-placed insider revealed. “There’s a reason they go by ‘Peltz Beckham’ — it’s all about creating a brand.”
According to the source, Nicola and her mother are often the creative force, while Nelson has the resources to say yes to just about any idea. “But for David and Victoria, it’s different,” the insider added. “They want things to have meaning and substance.”
Another source close to the situation highlighted the contrast between the two families. “The Beckhams are quite traditional in their values. They believe in earning your way,” they said. “Yes, they support their kids, but they made sure Brooklyn had real-world experiences — he worked in a café to learn about responsibility, and they helped him pursue photography through internships. When he shifted to cooking, they supported that too.”
The source added that the families come from very different backgrounds and outlooks. “There are cultural differences at play here,” they said, hinting at the deeper divide in how the Peltzes and the Beckhams approach family, fame, and business.
October 2023: United frontIn 2023, Victoria and Nicola appeared to slowly but surely reconcile, as they shared snippets of their relationship on social media.
Then, in October, the Beckham family put on a united front as they attended the premiere of their documentary series, Beckham.
The famous couple were joined by all their children for the special event, as the family walked the red carpet together.
Christmas together: December 2023It was as if 2022 never happened when, on December 23, Nicola posted a carousel of photos that opened with a picture of just her and Victoria, captioned simply: “Love you."
Then, on Day, Victoria enthusiastically embraced her son’s new last name, sharing with followers: “Happy Christmas!! Lots of love from the Beckham’s [sic] and the Peltz Beckhams!!!” Nicola replied warmly, “I love you!!”
January 2024: Birthday wishesAny hint of tension between Nicola and Victoria seemed firmly behind them as 2024 kicked off. This was especially clear when Victoria shared an adoring birthday tribute to her daughter-in-law.
The former Spice Girl posted a sweet video of herself and Nicola dancing together on a beach during their December holiday abroad.. The clip highlighted Nicola’s impressive ability to walk on sand while wearing heeled wedges.
At one point, Nicola placed her hands on Victoria’s waist, and the pair held hands as they danced in perfect sync. Toward the end, the person filming - believed to be David - could be heard humming along to the music, adding a charming, intimate touch to the family moment.
Victoria’s caption gushed with affection: “Happy birthday @NicolaAnnePeltzBeckham… We love you so much!! Your love, kindness, talent and your ability to dance on sand in a major wedge!!”
She added, “The best dance partner and loving daughter-in-law. We love you, have an amazing day!!!!! Xxxxxx."
May 2025: David's 50thDespite things appearing to be smoothed over, tensions have resurfaced.
Earlier this year, former legend David turned 50 and celebrated with multiple parties and family events.
Despite both Brooklyn and Nicola being invited, they failed to attend any. For one occasion, they jetted in to London from Los Angeles and although they were staying in a nearby hotel, chose to head out with a friend rather than attend a swanky dinner for David's birthday.
Sources now claim that Spice Girls icon Victoria and her husband have effectively washed their hands and are "done" with Nicola. Meanwhile, sources close to Nicola and Brooklyn have claimed that they have made it "virtually impossible" for David and Victoria to give them "love and support".
But those close to the Beckham family don't believe this is the case. Speaking to the , a source said: "Brooklyn is now being referred to as 'the hostage'. He is in a situation where those who love Brooklyn fear that he is being controlled by Nicola, and it is heartbreaking."
"Videos like this are just not what he does. He will be dying inside," they said of a recent video he shared of himself and Nicola. They added: "He's soppy and he's a romantic, but that video just isn’t him. He hates all of that stuff, so you have to wonder if Nicola was behind it."
Brooklyn shared a clip of himself and Nicola riding a motorbike and made a very blistering comment, which appeared to be aimed at his family. Captioning his post, Brooklyn penned: "My whole x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you're the most amazing person I know xx me and you forever baby."
