If you get your period before the scheduled time every month, and this continues for more than a month, then do not take it lightly at all. Usually, the menstrual cycle of women is of 21 to 35 days. If your periods are coming frequently, that is, before every 21 days, then it is called polymenorrhea. This can be a sign of some internal health problem.

Why do periods come so frequently?

There can be many reasons for periods coming too early. Some reasons are normal, but some point to serious diseases.

Hormonal imbalance

  • Estrogen and progesterone: These are the two main hormones that control periods. If there is a disturbance in them, the timing of periods can get disturbed.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome: This is a common hormonal problem nowadays, in which small lumps (cysts) are formed in the ovaries. This causes periods to become irregular and may also come too frequently.
  • Thyroid problems: An imbalance of thyroid hormones also affects periods. If the thyroid is not functioning properly, periods can become early and irregular.

Stress and lifestyle

  • Mental and physical stress: Too much stress affects hormones, which can cause periods to arrive early.
  • Weight change: Sudden weight gain or loss can also disturb the hormonal balance, which disrupts the menstrual cycle.
  • Excessive exercise: Too much and difficult exercise can also cause irregular periods.

Uterine (uterus) problems

  • Uterine fibroids: These are non-cancerous lumps in the uterus that can make periods irregular and cause excessive bleeding.
  • Polyps: Small, non-cancerous growths on the inner lining of the uterus can also cause frequent bleeding or periods.

Infection

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease: This is an infection of the reproductive organs, which can cause irregular bleeding and frequent periods.
  • Sexually transmitted infections: Some sexually transmitted diseases can also cause irregular bleeding.

Contraceptive Methods

  • Birth control pills: Some types of birth control pills or emergency contraception can temporarily disrupt your menstrual cycle.
  • Around menopause (perimenopause): A few years before menopause (periods stop), women's hormone levels begin to fluctuate. During this time, menstrual cycles may become shorter or irregular.

When to be careful and consult a doctor?

If you are getting your periods before the first month or some other symptoms are also visible along with it, then consult a doctor immediately.

  • Excessive bleeding or bleeding continuing for many days.
  • Having a lot of pain during periods.
  • Feeling dizzy, weak, or extremely tired (symptoms of anemia).
  • Rapid change in weight.
  • Signs of hormonal changes like swelling in the neck or unwanted hair growth on the face.
  • If you feel that you may be pregnant and yet bleeding is occurring.

Consulting a doctor in time will help to find out the real reason and if needed, the right treatment can be started, so that you can avoid any serious disease. Do not be careless about your health.
