No Rain Basera At AIIMS Bhopal Yet; Work Not Begun, Completion Deadline Just Weeks Away

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Rain Basera (night shelter) project at AIIMS Bhopal, envisioned to provide much-needed accommodation for patients and their families, has not started yet, despite the construction deadline of August 24, 2025 fast approaching.

Shockingly, no construction work has begun so far. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone in February 2024 for the shelter, which is to be developed by Sarthak Seva Kendra (SSK).

As per AIIMS officials, the state government has granted land use change, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is now proposed to be signed with the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), which will take up the construction work. The maintenance responsibility will rest with SSK.

The Standing Finance Committee (SFC) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has assured centralised funding under CSR for construction of the “Vishram Sadan”, as the project is officially named.

The Rain basera, planned in collaboration with NGOs such as Seva Bharti, aims to address accommodation crisis for families arriving from remote areas. The plan includes building 500 rooms on a 22,000 sq ft area, along with an all-religion prayer space, offering much-needed relief to patients’ relatives.
