Investigations into the Ulwe murder of 27-year-old chemist Alveena Adamli Khan has revealed that the complainant in the case—her husband Kishorsingh Khangarsingh Rajput—is himself the main accused. Police have arrested him along with two women who allegedly helped arrange the contract killing, while two hired assassins remain absconding.
The murder, which took place late Sunday night, shocked the Ulwe locality. Alveena, who ran a medical store with her husband in Sector 5, was returning home from a relative’s place in Mumbai when she was attacked just 50 metres from her residence. An unidentified man slit her throat with a sharp weapon and fled, leaving her dead on the spot.
The case was initially registered against an unknown assailant by Ulwe police. However, a parallel probe by Crime Branch Unit-2 quickly turned the spotlight onto her husband. During the investigation, police found unusual calling activity of Rajput. "He had made ateast nine calls to his wife while she was returning back home to confirm her location. Also there were some calls made on unknown numbers which were switched off after the murder and hence our suspicion against Rajput grew," a police officer privy to the investigation said. During interrogation, Rajput initially denied involvement, but later confessed to hiring contract killers through intermediaries to murder his wife.
According to police, Khan had given Rajput Rs. 15 lakh to invest in business. When she began demanding the money back and refused to agree to a divorce unless repaid, Rajput allegedly decided to eliminate her. He feared she would neither return the money nor grant him a divorce.
Investigations revealed that Rajput had paid Rs. 6 lakh to Alisha Dhanprakash Tyagi, a local resident, to arrange the killing. Tyagi then involved her associate, Charanjeet Fattesingh Kaur alias Dimple, who sourced two contract killers from Punjab. The killers trailed Khan and executed the murder late Sunday night.
"Rajput, Tyagi, and Dimple have been arrested and remanded to police custody until May 27. We are looking for the two killers involved in the murder," assistant commissioner of police (crime branch) Ajay Landge said.
