Rashmika Mandanna’s much-anticipated romantic drama The Girlfriend finally arrived in theatres today (November 7, 2025), and the early reactions are already pouring in online. The film, directed by Rahul Ravindran, has opened to mixed reviews from audiences, with many appreciating Rashmika’s emotional performance while pointing out the film’s slow pace and uneven narration. Backed by Geetha Arts, The Girlfriend has been granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Netizens review The Girlfriend

The romantic drama stars Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty in lead roles, with Rohini, Rao Ramesh, and Koushik Mahata in key supporting parts. The film’s technical team includes cinematographer Krishnan Vasant, music composer Hesham Abdul Wahab, and editor Chota K Prasad. The production design is handled by S. Rama Krishna and Monika Nigotre, while Allu Aravind presents the project.

Soon after the first shows, social media was abuzz with reactions. Many viewers praised Rashmika’s portrayal of Bhooma, calling it one of her most mature and powerful performances yet. Fans noted that she brought depth and grace to her role, with some even calling it a career-best act. One user described the film as a “sincere romantic drama with emotional depth and standout moments,” adding that Rashmika “shines with a heartfelt performance” even though the film moves at a slow pace.

Others highlighted that while the story unfolds leisurely, it has its moments of brilliance. Giving it 3 stars, they pointed out that the music, dialogues, and pre-interval sequence stand out for their emotional weight and cinematic finesse. Several viewers mentioned that despite the film’s unhurried storytelling, its honesty and heartfelt intent make it worth watching.

However, not all reviews were glowing. Some users felt the film failed to maintain engagement throughout, calling it “a slow, uneven romantic drama that struggles to hold attention.” A few went on to rate it 1.25 out of 5, stating that despite Rashmika’s sincere effort, the weak narration and sluggish flow prevent the film from making a strong impact.
