Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off Mizoram’s first-ever Rajdhani Express, connecting Sairang near Aizawl with Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi.
The new weekly service marks the launch of a Rajdhani Express after a gap of six years and is being seen as a landmark step in boosting rail connectivity in the Northeast.
The inaugural run of the train, numbered 02057 Sairang–Anand Vihar Terminal Special, took place on September 13, 2025, departing Sairang at 10:00 hrs. It is enroute to Delhi, where it will reach on September 15 at 07:30 hrs.
The route includes key halts at Bairabi, Hailakandi, Badarpur Junction, New Haflong, Hojai, Guwahati, Rangiya, Barpeta Road, New Bongaigaon, New Cooch Behar, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Sahibganj, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, Patna Junction, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction and Kanpur Central.
Weekly schedule from September 19
From September 19, the service will run regularly as Train No. 20507/20508 Sairang–Anand Vihar Terminal–Sairang Rajdhani Express.
This new connection will significantly reduce travel time for passengers from Mizoram heading to Delhi, while also serving major junctions across Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
Modern comforts on board
The Rajdhani will feature a fully air-conditioned rake with multiple accommodation classes, modern passenger amenities, and onboard catering facilities, keeping with the Rajdhani Express brand standards.
The service is being seen as a landmark moment for Mizoram’s railway network.
Sairang, located about 22 km from Aizawl, will now serve as the state’s rail gateway, eliminating the need for passengers to travel by road to Assam for long-distance trains.
With this launch, Mizoram joins Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh among northeastern states directly connected to Delhi by Rajdhani Express. The service is expected to boost tourism, trade and cultural exchange, while symbolising deeper integration of the Northeast into India’s premier rail network.
