Ferozepur (Punjab) [India], September 2 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday visited the flood-affected areas of Gatti Rajo village in Firozepur district and assured residents that "every possible effort is being made to evacuate people safely" and that "very soon the situation will be normal."
CM Mann, who surveyed the area by boat, also encouraged locals to maintain "positive thinking and morale" during the crisis.
In a post on X, CM Mann wrote, "Today, I visited the flood-affected areas of Gatti Rajo village in Firozpur district by boat and took stock of the situation. I met the local people and encouraged them. Appropriate compensation will be given for every kind of loss caused to the people due to the flood and new and effective ways will be found to deal with such a situation in future."

"Along with this, a demand has also been made to the central government to increase the compensation for losses caused due to natural disasters. Keep up your courage and enthusiasm," he added.
The post added on X, "Keep positive thinking and morale intact. In this hour of crisis, our government and administration are standing with the people with full readiness. Every possible effort is being made to evacuate people safely. Very soon the situation will be normal."
Earlier today, CM Mann said that the flood situation faced by the state is more severe than that in 1988 and expressed hope that people of the country will stand by the state.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had inquired about the flood situation in the state.
"When the country was in crisis, Punjab always stood with the nation... Today, Punjab is in crisis, and I am fully hopeful that the entire country will stand with Punjab. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister called, and they inquired about the situation... The flood that came in 1988, I was young boy then...the situation is more severe," Mann told ANI.
He said the state is still battling floods and the amount of relief needed will be known after assessment of losses. "It is very bad situation," he said.
Bhagwant Mann visited the Ferozepur district to assess the flood situation. Interacting with the flood-affected people, CM got emotional.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Punjab Police announced that all Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the state have pledged one day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

In a post on X, DGPPunjabPolice said," In solidarity with the people of Punjab affected by the devastating floods, all IPS officers of the state have resolved to contribute one day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This contribution is a humble gesture to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. Beyond policing, we see it as our humanitarian duty to stand with our fellow citizens in this hour of distress."
"Punjab Police remains committed not only to ensuring law and order but also to extending every possible assistance to ease the suffering of those affected. Together, with compassion and collective effort, we will overcome this challenge and help rebuild lives," he said.
Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said that floods have affected over 2.56 lakh people in 12 districts, displacing thousands and causing widespread damage to lives, property, crops, and livestock.
He said 15,688 people have been evacuated so far, with the highest numbers reported from Gurdaspur (5,549), Ferozepur (3,321), Fazilka (2,049), Amritsar (1,700), Pathankot (1,139), and Hoshiarpur (1,052).
The state government has established 129 relief camps, sheltering 7,144 people.
Ferozepur has the highest number of inmates at 3,987, followed by Fazilka (1,201), Hoshiarpur (478), Pathankot (411), and Gurdaspur (424). (ANI)
