Recently, the UGC issued a public notice against another fake university. This engineering college in Delhi was admitting students by claiming to be legitimate.
Education is crucial in today's times. An educated person can live independently and without any help. To achieve this, students seek admission to various universities and colleges for further studies. But what if one day you discover that your university is fake?
Recently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has once again tightened its grip on an unrecognized engineering college claiming to be legitimate. The UGC has issued a public notice warning students about the Institute of Management and Engineering, which was found to be fake after an investigation.
UGC Caught Several Fake Colleges
In addition, the UGC has identified and released a list of 22 fake educational institutions operating in select states, posing as recognized universities. Most of these institutions are making money in educational hubs, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Nine of these 22 universities are located in Delhi, a significant number. Besides Delhi being the capital, the use of heavy-hitting terms like "National," "Institute of Technology," and "Management" in their brand promotion methods also serves to lure students into this trap.
More Fake Educational Institutions in Big Cities
There are several major reasons for the proliferation of fake institutions in big cities. The primary reason is the sheer number of institutions, from engineering to medical, that it's difficult to distinguish between real and fake. Furthermore, students flock here year-round, and the lines for admission are never-ending. Furthermore, the situation in Uttar Pradesh is even worse. Here, fake universities simply need to add Vidyapeeth, Parishad, or Open University to their names to make money. This allows them to thrive in businesses that offer students easy admission processes and in-the-know degrees.
Don't Fall for the Fake Universities
The biggest reason for the proliferation of these fake universities is our carelessness. Parents and students often blindly trust university brochures when seeking admission and accept admission without proper verification. To protect students from these fraudulent universities, the UGC has released a list of all recognized and unrecognized universities, which you can easily check on the UGC portal. Furthermore, before admission, be sure to verify all university credentials on DigiLocker or NAD.
