Arsenalare chasing a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie before the end of the transfer window.

Mikel Arteta's side have spent in excess of £250 million on seven players so far this summer but there is a hope that at least one more can arrive ahead of Monday's 7pm deadline.

Hincapie, 23, signed for Leverkusen from Argentine top-tier outfit Talleres in August 2021 and he has since made quite the impression during his time in Germany.

Indeed, he has featured 166 times for Leverkusen, scoring seven goals and winning three trophies, including the Bundesliga in 2023/24.

However, Hincapie, who started Leverkusen's opening weekend defeat against Hoffenheim, is keen to leave his side and make the move to Arsenal. The Ecuador international could be involved for Leverkusen's trip to Werder Bremen on Saturday but there is a determination from the player to sign for the Gunners.

Here, football.london has taken a look at the latest transfer news involving Hincapie...

Latest on Arsenal move

Arsenal are hoping to strike an agreement for Piero Hincapie before the weekend for under the £51.7m elease clause, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 23-year-old is pushing to leave Leverkusen for a package closer to £43.1m, but it's unclear at this stage whether Bayer Leverkusen are going to accept that proposal.

The Gunners are preparing different formulas, with a loan plus an obligation to buy the preference. However, an outright purchase is not discounted if the price decreases. Jakub Kiwior's proposed move to Porto is all-but-expected to be completed if Hincapie makes the move to the Emirates Stadium.

Rolfes on Hincapie

Simon Rolfes has provided an update on Piero Hincapie's future. Speaking to German outlet Sport, the Bayer Leverkusen managing director said: "We still haven't received an official offer from any club, so he's our player. "That's the status quo.

"Leverkusen naturally want to keep hold of Piero. "He knows that we value him highly and is aware that we would like to see him continue with us."

On big clubs trying to sign players from Leverkusen, Rolfes said: "It’s a part and consequence of the success.

"The transfer window is still open until Monday evening so the probability is high that something will still happen."
